Seals Ahoy

We were driving down Four Mile Beach on the West Coast of Tasmania the other day. Its a vast wide beach of clear white sand (when the tide is out). As we were travelling we spotted what looked like a log on the beach. Then we realised it was a seal! Not something you see every day when four wheel driving in Australia. It started moving towards the sea as we got out the car but was obviously struggling for energy. We kept our distance and it eventually just lay back down on the sand and was still there when we drove back a few hours later.

Ten minutes later I was out of the car exploring some rocks when I nearly stepped on another seal which was so well camouflaged it looked like a rock. He could barely lift his nose out the water to say hello. Tasmania is nature at its best.
