Unlock Australia Campaign

As we travel around Australia we have become increasingly frustrated with the amount of gates and fences we come across which prevent us from accessing many parts of this huge country. There is a growing trend in Australia whereby apparent ‘conservationists’ believe the bush is best protected by locking people out.

We consider ourselves to be conservationists but we are also passionate four wheel drivers. We firmly believe the only way people can appreciate what this country has to offer is to let them see  it and experience it. This will encourage respect and understanding of our country.

Gates are preventing 4WDers accessing many of Australia’s tracks

Before we began our trip around Oz we didn’t know the Tassie Devil was endangered and that the cane toad is destroying huge numbers of native marsupials. We had no idea that the mound springs on the Oodnadatta Track are at risk of drying up and that feral animals (cats, pigs and rabbits) are continuing to have such a detrimental affect on Australia’s native flora and fauna. Being able to travel to remote locations has opened our eyes to the need for responsible use of our land.

Recently we discovered the Unlock Australia campaign (www.unlockaustralia.com.au.) which has been formed to fight the extreme green mind-set of National Parks and so called ‘conservationists’ who believe the bush is best protected by locking people out. The man at the forefront of the Unlock Australia campaign is 4WD Action off-road legend and presenter John Rooth (‘Roothy’). We were fortunate to bump into him while travelling in Tasmania and shared our frustrations about the gates and fences increasingly stopping us seeing, experiencing and enjoying this vast country.

If you love the bush, love 4WD-ing and want to make sure Australia stays unlocked get behind the campaign: Unlock Australia www.unlockaustralia.com.au.
